Floods and more floods

Rainy season should be finished by now but it hasn’t, it also started earlier than normal so as a result the rivers are very very full. The government don’t want Bangkok(capital) to flood so they release water into places in central Thailand which aren’t so important ie where I used to work – Sukothai and where I now work Nakhon Sawan.

Everywhere we went the floods seemed to follow us!! First my parents came to Sukothai – flooding. Then we went to Nakhon Sawan and more flooding!! On the second night in Nakhon Sawan I woke up about three o’clock and realised it was raining quite heavily. Before we went to bed the rivers where very very full so when I realised that it was raining I said a quick prayer that people would be safe. Unknown to me the rest of the household where up and carrying everything from downstairs up stairs, as they feared that the water would come into the house. I slept on. Woke up the next morning looked out the window and saw that the road was very badly flooded!! This is a picture of mum wading through the water to get to the main road which wasn’t flooded so that we could get to the bus station to go to Bangkok.

Not so Royal Visit
Then I went back to Sukothai to pack everything up and my parents came to visit. Which was very lovely. As you can see I have managed to accumulate quite a lot of stuff I wasn’t thinking that I would be moving for a very long time, and I had lots of household things. So everything was piled up on a pick up truck, a big bit of plastic put over the top and lots and lots of rope was put around the truck.

A Royal visit
When I was staying in Uthai recovering from dengue something quite exciting happened the princess of Thailand came to visit the Technical College in Uthai. So I went to have a look. The first part was very formal and I made a big cultural blunder by pointing at her!!! Then she disappeared for about half an hour and came back as pop star!!! And preformed a very western pop concert. We weren’t allowed to take photos, but I was given this badge (see photo) by the principle of the college.
Blog Update
So what have I been up to in the last few months. Well I am still recovering from dengue hence my absence from posting, but I’ve still been taking pictures of what I have been up to. So here they are.

Dengue Report About three weeks ago now I came home from work one night and didn’t want to put the air con on – this is a very strange thing!!! Next thing I know I’m really cold and have my hoodie on with the hood up. No Thailand had not suddenly become very cold, what was happening, I had a fever. However I thought it was just a normal fever and it would pass in a few days, so I took some paracetamol and off I went to work. This continued but I didn’t really feel that I could take time of work so on I plodded. On the Thursday Rolf and Elfi were having a farewell lunch, and for the first day I had no fever so off I went, I was ok that day but the following day I could hardly climb the stairs. I felt as if I had climbed Everest the previous day rather than sitting all day which is what I had been doing. The following day I did not move apart from hobbling down the stairs to get some food by the time I made the food cereal with milk nothing too complex I hadn’t the energy to eat it. Then this red rash appeared. Anyway eventually I realised that I had dengue and was told that I needed to rest for a long time. I kept asking how long a long time was but no one would answer that question. So after lying in bed for a long time, not being able to hold up a needle to do my cross stitch for more than one thread I am getting stronger. I still can’t do too much or I get completely exhausted but it’s definitely a great improvement. It has been really frustrating letting other people do things for me all the time, but I’m so thankful for these people so that I can fully recover. So on Saturday Mum and Dad arrive, and I’m off on holidays: )
